Why shoot a photo session here?
The Jardin du Luxembourg has what a family session actually needs: wide lawns, chestnut-lined paths, the Médicis fountain in the background, and enough space for a kid to run without leaving the frame. It’s also one of the few large Paris gardens where you’re allowed to sit on the grass.
The garden closes at dusk and the hours shift with the season, so I always check before booking a late-afternoon session. Mornings, before the school groups arrive, are the calmest window for a family with young children.

- Mid-morning, before school groups arrive: quiet, soft light under the chestnut trees.
- Crowds
- Busy on weekends and late afternoons, especially around the central pond and the playground.
- Permits
- The garden closes at dusk, hours vary by season. A handheld family session needs no permit.
- Getting there
- RER B, Luxembourg station, or Métro Odéon (lines 4 and 10).
