Why shoot a photo session here?
The Cour Napoléon and its glass pyramid give a wedding a sense of scale no other Paris location quite matches: colonnades, arcades, and a straight sightline through to the Carrousel. It’s a backdrop that needs room to breathe, and the Louvre’s courtyard, rarely empty but never cramped, gives you exactly that.
The session works best early, before the museum opens at 9am, when the courtyard has little more than a few joggers and staff arriving for the day. After 10am the volume of visitors makes any clean composition difficult without strangers in frame.
What should you know before the session?
- The right time
- Before 9am, at museum opening: the courtyard is still nearly empty. Evening blue hour works too.
- Crowds
- Extremely busy all day from opening onward. Early morning is the only quiet window.
- Permits
- The Cour Napoléon is a public space, a handheld session needs no permit. A tripod or a larger crew may need a declaration in advance; I handle that if it applies.
- Getting there
- Métro Palais-Royal-Musée du Louvre (lines 1 and 7), straight out onto the pyramid.
