Why shoot a photo session here?
Pont Alexandre III is probably the single most photogenic bridge in Paris: gilded lamp posts, Art Nouveau nymphs, and, depending which way you’re facing, the dome of Les Invalides on one side, the Grand Palais on the other. For a wedding, it’s a backdrop that needs no help at all.
The bridge stays open to foot traffic the whole time, but the wide pavements leave plenty of room to work without blocking anyone. I favour the end of the day, when the stone turns warm and the lamps start to come on.
What should you know before the session?
- The right time
- Golden hour, late afternoon: the stone and gilding turn warm. Early morning for an empty bridge.
- Crowds
- Heavy foot and tour traffic during the day, especially on the Grand Palais side. Quieter after 7pm.
- Permits
- No permit needed for a handheld session.
- Getting there
- Métro Invalides (lines 8 and 13) or Champs-Élysées-Clemenceau (lines 1 and 13).
